It’s a really sad morning this morning as I find out that one of my favorite musicians in the world died this morning (or last night, it really depends on where you live on this planet). Tony Sly from the Punk Rock band No Use For A Name, at the age of 41, has passed away. No known cause of death has been released as of the moment, so I’m going to assume it was just sleep death.
Personally he was one of my favorite musicians and I actually had the privilege to have a few conversations with him before he passed (Thanks for all the replies, Tony!). Sadly I never got to go to any of his shows since NUFAN never came to the country that I currently live in and if I was not in the area of the show(s), so I guess I’ll never get to see them live… oh well.
I really wish No Use For A Name and Tony’s family (especially Fiona, his daughter) the best!
“So everybody sing along this could be tonight’s ‘one more song’. This shot we take before the bell we raise our glass to songs that we know so well.” – Tony Sly, Liver Let Die
I haven’t posted anything lately. Um, I lost my job. My mom had a minor stroke and is now blind in one of her eyes. I got an Xbox 360 and completed CoD4 (Modern Warfare, all achievements within a week’s time). All of this happened in a month. And now I’m sitting here writing this post to try and keep my blog updated. Not much to talk about this time around. If you read this post I want to really thank you for dropping by and reading this. This post is actually less than 100 words.
FAT WRECK CHORDS record store
One of the best record labels in the world, Fat Wreck Chords, is setting up a record store. Yes, that’s right, a physical brick and mortar building store. Apparently people still set those up even with digital distribution and online stores (they have their own online store on their website) around.
Just a little bit of fact for you ladies and gentlemen who don’t know about Fat Wreck: it’s a Punk Rock record label owned by one of the best Punk bands in the world, NOFX (or at least Fat Mike from NOFX), located in San Francisco, and they have a bunch of awesome bands (if you’re into Punk Rock/Ska music) in their catalog.
Just to name a few:
The store opens on June 22nd and will be located in San Francisco (I’ve only been there once when I was a little kid so please don’t ask me where) and you can read all about it here.
And now I leave you with some Fat music
What are some of the music genres you like and some of your favorite bands?
Thank you for reading.

Last Friday (June 8) I was invited to go to an event at Megamall, it was the iButterfly catch-up event that was held at the Atrium, with special guests like Tim Yap, Tessa-Prieto Valdez, Jenni Epperson, and more (I don’t know who any of those people are). The poster said that the event would start at 3pm, I left the place at 4:25pm and the event had not started yet. I think it started at 5pm. And I got word that my name was called because I had won something… lesson leaned: don’t leave so early, or just get there late!
iButterfly is a smartphone app that helps customers experience a new and fun way to shop, it uses 3 technologies: Augmented Reality, for seeing the iButterflies in the real world, Motion Sensors for catching iButterflies using your phone and your phone’s Global Positioning System or GPS for finding where the iButterflies are. It is definitely a unique way of enjoying promos from partner stores within the participating malls.
Here’s a list of some participating stores:
Here’s a list of participating SM malls:

This promotion will be going on until the end of June, June 30th to be exact. So go and download the app, go to the participating SM malls, and have fun!

Today I feel inspired to talk about Rodney Mullen, one of my heroes, someone I really look up to. He’s a big innovator in the world of skateboarding and has created most of, if not all, the tricks that modern skaters use today. He also created some of the most known companies in skateboarding, World Industries, Globe Shoes, Almost Skateboards… just to name a few. And he was also part of one of the best skate companies ever, The A-Team!
He was invited to talk at TEDxUSC. There he talked about his career and how innovation should be a constant thing despite the environment. How you really shouldn’t limit yourself to what you know and to keep thinking about how to improve on what you know. Also, he talks about society and how each of us are part of it and how it defines us as an individual (something I’ve lost touch of as I’ve gotten older and jaded. Thanks for the reminder, Rodney!).
You can watch the video here:
And while I watched this video I got really inspired. I think I’m going to try more things now and possibly post more content here since this blog is really just a reflection of me and my thoughts (with an inside joke), and not just here but maybe put my YouTube channel to more use (even though there are 2 unlisted videos on there). And maybe become a better person. Still kicking around ideas from the last “thoughts and ideas” post.

Today I am really excited because one of my favorite bands (of all time…since 2004), Reel Big Fish, has released a video with some sound clips of new songs which you can watch
Can we expect this album to be named Candy Coated Fury?
The last time RBF came out with an album was in 2009, Fame, Fortune and Fornication, but those were all cover songs. The last time they released an album with some new songs was in 2007, Monkey’s for Nothin’ and the Chimp’s for Free. So I guess the last time they came out with an album with all original songs was back in 1996, Turn the Radio Off. That’s a long time ago… I was only 7.
Anyways, if you like rockin’ Ska music (I know I do!) you should definitely check these guys out here and here.
And enjoy these songs:
Oh! And the Venus Transit happens today. Whatever that means…

My company (Social Ally) is sponsoring an upcoming webinar on Search Marketing called “Search Marketing on the cheap with Mike Moran”. The title suggest that it’s for up and coming business people, but I think even the knowledgeable business people should check this out as well because I think that it would help a lot and you never know what you can pick up even if you do know this kind of stuff already. Whether you are just starting your business or your business has been up and running for a while now, everybody loves to save money when they can (or is it just me?)! So yeah, if you are interested here is a link that will take you to a page where you can sign up: click here and if it’s not too much trouble and too much to ask for please check out the company that I work for here (it’s a Facebook page).
